Established in 2009, World Heart Beat Music Academy is a leading music education charity in south London, known for its youth-led approach and inclusive programming. In January 2023, World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens, a state-of-the-art second music education centre, concert hall and recording studios, opened in the heart of the Nine Elms regeneration. The Buffini Chao Foundation provided a vital capital grant, naming the ‘Buffini Chao Room’ for teaching, and providing year-1 revenue support.

Impact:

  • 87% of young people felt that WHB provides a supportive and encouraging environment that motivates them.
  • 74% of young people feel more confident.
  • 77% report an increase in self-esteem.
  • 87% had increased resilience.
  • 97% told us they believe that if they work hard, they will succeed.

“We are so grateful to the Buffini Chao Foundation for their support and their engagement with our work. Our vision for Embassy Gardens is to not only provide more opportunities for disadvantaged children to learn music, but to extend our work, supporting young musicians to develop their music industry careers. We have created a warm, inclusive, yet high-tech building to enable us to do this. The Buffini Chao Foundation really understood our aims.” – Sahana Gero MBE, Founder and Artistic Director.

“I love coming to heartbeat, this place is my second home. I love the people and the environment. I wanted to tell you how much World Heart Beat has really allowed me to grow, and that I wouldn’t be where I am without you. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me and all the other students.” – Oli, World Heart Beat student.
